I went on a trip to Jeju Island.

The goal was to rent a bicycle and ride one full loop of the Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path.

It was a very hard ride because of the heat wave warning,

but it was still a precious experience that gave me many realizations.

More than 80% of the Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path was bicycle road,

so thanks to that, I could ride the full loop relatively comfortably in my own way.

Of course, some sections had an endless uphill hell…

Anyway, I am leaving the record here.

Next time, I should go ride around autumn, when there is no heat wave warning.

< Day 1/4 >

naver-010-002

< Lodging (Haena Guesthouse) - Yongduam >

naver-010-003

People snored on both sides of me last night, but it was okay.

I was tired from taking the plane anyway, so I probably slept while snoring too lol

naver-010-004

naver-010-005

naver-010-006

The atmosphere was very cozy and nice.

The owner’s emotional BGM selection was good too.

naver-010-007

I was really right to wait for breakfast…

It was such a tasty meal.

Especially the crispiness of that bread straight from the oven was almost cheating.

naver-010-008

naver-010-009

naver-010-010

Finished renting a high-end bicycle from J Bicycle for four days (20000 won x 4).

naver-010-011

naver-010-012

Arrived at Yongduam Certification Center at 10:15.

Race start!

< Yongduam - Darak Rest Area >

(about 21 km)

naver-010-013

But less than an hour after starting, I began to regret it terribly.

The blazing sun of Jeju Island under constant heat wave warning was another level.

I bought a large amount of ion drinks to replenish water.

naver-010-014

naver-010-015

I found this not long after filling my stomach with ion drinks.

Yeondon Bolkatsu, which I had only heard about!

Ttuyeolchi, which I had only heard about!

naver-010-016

A stomach full of water and a stomach for food are different things.

I inhaled it.

Ridiculously tasty.

naver-010-017

naver-010-018

Kill… me…;

My knees feel like they are going to explode.

naver-010-019

You can assume I drank more than four Toreta Zeros on average per course.

That is how insanely the sweat poured out.

naver-010-020

One-line course review: There are… quite a few uphills?

< Darak Rest Area - Haegeoreum Village Park >

(about 21 km)

naver-010-021

Emerald!

naver-010-022

My knees already feel like they are going to explode… lol

I think I started this for no reason.

naver-010-023

Hallelujah in the middle of that.

naver-010-024

naver-010-025

Photo exchange with a rider who happened to be standing and resting.

naver-010-026

There were signs here and there, and they gave me strength.

When the goal and indicators are clear, you can move forward no matter how hard it is.

naver-010-027

naver-010-028

Next year, I will lose weight and come with a girlfriend.

naver-010-029

Certification center, why are you coming out here…?

This is the middle of the road.

One-line course review: There was an urban road section in the middle where you had to go only by road/sidewalk, so it was quite dangerous.

< Haegeoreum Village Park - Songaksan >

(about 35 km)

From beginning to end, this place was almost nothing but uphill roads, and I thought I was going to die.

There was not much to photograph either…

It was just continuous uphill, and just a road where cars kept speeding by.

Just continuous uphill.

Uphill.

Uphill.

Uphill.

Ugh…

Are you going to give up? Or not? Will you? Won’t you?

Will-you-won’t-you-will-you-won’t-you-will-you-won’t-you

I cannot give up… damn…

I already booked lodging near Songaksan Certification Center ㅠㅠ

The cliff-edge tactic succeeded.

Later, when I talked with another rider, they said they simply walked the whole way through these uphills.

Maybe I was the only one being stubborn, dropping into low gear and grinding my way up lol

But I cannot resist a challenge either.

naver-010-030

As soon as the endless uphill hell section ended and I entered town, I rushed into the first Lotteria I saw.

After eating, I felt like I could live… I really almost died.

naver-010-031

When I was close to arriving (7 km left…), it finally showed me a grand view.

Still, at least the uphill was over… I had climbed nearly 20 km of nothing but uphill… insane.

naver-010-032

All that just to take this one photo… ㅠㅠ

One-line course review: How high are we going, exactly?

< Songaksan - Lodging (Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Spring Pension) >

(about 7.4 km)

naver-010-033

naver-010-034

It was a long… day.

< Day 2/4 >

naver-010-035

< Lodging (Sanbangsan Carbonated Hot Spring Pension) - Beophwan Badang >

(about 24.6 km)

naver-010-036

naver-010-037

I went to the carbonated hot spring.

There was no discount linked with the carbonated hot spring pension/guesthouse… so close.

The facilities felt a bit worn and old, but having carbonated bubbles form all over my body was quite a fascinating experience.

naver-010-038

Protein to prevent muscle loss, and a low-calorie breakfast for reducing body fat.

Now that my stomach is filled, departure!

naver-010-039

naver-010-040

There were various things like a teddy bear museum and an attraction museum, but nothing especially pulled me in…

Then as I kept going, I saw something called Chocolate Land.

Oh?! I thought, and checked the ratings lol The bad reviews were everywhere.

…Let’s just ride. The road ahead is long.

naver-010-041

naver-010-042

naver-010-043

Suddenly a long downhill stretched out lol

I got excited and let off the brake, and it felt like I hit a momentary top speed around 35 km/h.

I instantly felt my life was threatened and kept the rear brake engaged.

Still, it was cool and felt good lol

naver-010-044

Where there is downhill, there is uphill…

It was so hard, my legs were cramping, and I could not endure it.

For energy recharging, gukbap is the answer!

The glutinous rice sundae was substantial and honey-tasty.

naver-010-045

After fully recharging energy, I took this on the way simply because it was interesting.

naver-010-046

Finally arrived… phew.

One-line course review: There were many downhills here and there, so it was fun.

< Beophwan Badang - Soesokkak >

(about 13.5 km)

naver-010-047

naver-010-048

naver-010-049

That bench with steam coming out is cool, you know.

My first outdoor lodging.

I think I lay down and rested for about 10 minutes.

naver-010-050

naver-010-051

naver-010-052

naver-010-053

As I kept going, this cozy bed was prepared for me!

My second outdoor lodging.

I lay down here for about 10 minutes too.

The reason I kept sleeping like this was…

maybe because of accumulated damage since yesterday,

or because I almost fell from cramping while climbing uphill lol

When the thought that I should not overdo it took over my whole body, only then did I realize my body was tired.

naver-010-054

One-line course review: I kept riding in an almost half-dead state, so nothing remains in memory. It was nice that the course was short, though.

< Soesokkak - Pyoseon Beach >

(about 28.3 km)

naver-010-055

This could have become my third outdoor sleeping lodging…

but there were too many bugs, so rejected ㅠㅠ

naver-010-056

A fellow rider I had run into a few times on the road, shouting “Fighting!” to each other.

Huh? I was definitely ahead…

but they were resting at a convenience store.

Happy to see them, I went into the convenience store too.

I bought a drink and sat in the convenience store chair, and they immediately started talking to me.

They sprayed pain relief, shared tips, gave geographic information, bought me bottled water…

Simply a god-sent noble person.

Since our destination was the same, Pyoseon Beach Certification Center, we decided to ride together.

We synchronized our KakaoMap courses and, whenever we saw a convenience store, naturally stopped and waited for each other.

naver-010-057

Before, convenience stores felt like rest areas/save points,

but now they became a meeting square with a fellow rider, so the feeling was different.

The certainty that someone would be following behind me

made it feel like I was riding together even while riding alone,

and thanks to that, I joyfully finished what could have been a boring 28 km in no time.

These experiences gave good inspiration for the companion system I want to make in Life RPG.

Later, I must implement a feature where people can experience something similar.

naver-010-058

naver-010-059

One-line course review: We took the shortest KakaoMap route, so it was not the official route (coastal route), but because there were not many uphills, it was fine.

< Pyoseon Beach - Lodging (Jeju Blanc Guesthouse) >

(about 2 km)

naver-010-060

I gulped down a bowl of meat noodles with the fellow rider and said goodbye.

Where there is meeting, there is parting.

I did learn that at military training camp…

Still, we exchanged contact info, so maybe if I ever have a reason to visit Gwangju later, I can contact them?!

naver-010-061

Of course it started raining on the way to the lodging, so I got soaked…

and the owner personally did my laundry!!!

naver-010-062

The shower room was clean too, and everything that should be there was there.

Even though I did not bring anything separate, I could wash up luxuriously.

naver-010-063

On top of that, since there was no guest who had booked a single room that day, they upgraded me to a single room!

Where else is there such a generous guesthouse ㅠㅠ

naver-010-064

Quack.

< Day 3/4 >

naver-010-065

< Lodging (Jeju Blanc Guesthouse) - Seongsan Ilchulbong >

(about 23 km)

naver-010-066

A McMorning-style breakfast prepared by the lodging!

It was honey-tasty.

naver-010-067

naver-010-068

I kept wavering over whether to try the experience or not,

but I still had a long way to go and the sunlight was too strong, so I skipped it.

And alone, it would not be fun anyway ㅠ_ㅠ

naver-010-069

The sky is so clear!

I have a good feeling about today.

naver-010-070

Nice to CU too!

The rider couple I met here welcomed me, cheered me on, and taught me tips, so I felt goooood.

I will become a kind and cool couple like that too.

naver-010-071

Okay, this much distance is roughly 7 km, huh?

naver-010-072

I do not think you can ride the Jeju Fantasy Bicycle Path without energy drinks…

In other words, you need to be intoxicated by something and not in your right mind lol

Just kidding.

naver-010-073

You get drunk on the scenery~

If this were Han River riding, there would not be scenery like this, so it would probably be boring.

naver-010-074

I met the rider couple from the CU convenience store in the middle and asked them to take a photo.

They said they were going over to Udo.

For a moment I was tempted too, but today I wanted to get to the lodging a little early, do church work, and handle various things, so I skipped.

One-line course review: It was fine! The beginning was briefly hard, but I finally feel like I escaped uphill hell.

< Seongsan Ilchulbong - Gimnyeong Seongsegi Beach >

(about 28.2 km)

naver-010-075

I have seen a lot of it and should be tired of it, but the scenery is still nice.

Huh? What is that?

naver-010-076

naver-010-077

Oooooh!!!

Oooooooooh!!!

Black pork bibim noodles!!!

I ate them with lots of Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.

naver-010-078

Honey-tasty.

Not long after eating well and starting again, huh? My headache became very severe.

The headache that had continued since morning gradually got worse, to the point where continuing the ride was hard.

Was it from fatigue? Was it a cold coming on?

All kinds of questions came up, but I decided to rest first.

The correct answer was deep sleep.

After lying down and sleeping for about 15 minutes, my head felt a little better ^_^

naver-010-079

Oh! Nice to C U too again!

naver-010-080

Ice water!!!

For a rider, that is holy water.

naver-010-081

Holy water 1+1.

Reliable, huh?

naver-010-082

naver-010-083

naver-010-084

I should be tired of it, but seeing people enjoying themselves like that makes me feel wistful.

Diet motivation keeps springing up.

naver-010-085

…Huh? What is wrong with the sky?

naver-010-086

naver-010-087

Uh??

…Uhhhh?!

naver-010-088

Is that… rain?

naver-010-089

Ha…

Backpack cover installed.

lololol

naver-010-090

Since I was already soaked, I wondered a hundred times whether to go in or not.

But in the end, laziness won.

What am I going to do going into the water alone ㅠ_ㅠ

naver-010-091

The impact of the brief downpour.

The bicycle road was flooded here and there too, so my whole body got covered in muddy water.

Ugh lol If I had known this would happen, I should have just gone into the beach.

naver-010-092

Finally arrived…

One-line course review: I kept riding along beach roads, so the scenery was good, and most of it was flat, so it was very comfortable for riding!

< Gimnyeong Seongsegi Beach - Lodging (Annyeong Project Guesthouse) >

(about 6 km)

naver-010-093

naver-010-094

naver-010-095

naver-010-096

Arrived at the lodging…

I was flustered because I arrived a little earlier than expected.

I thought I would arrive around 5 p.m… I must have ridden too intensely lol

naver-010-097

I was hungry, so after dropping my luggage, I went to eat.

naver-010-098

naver-010-099

naver-010-100

naver-010-101

naver-010-102

Oh, shiiit~~

Finally, on day three, I met people at the guesthouse who were active in conversation.

Good people who even spoke to me and offered food without me greeting them first!

I was happy.

So this was the kind of exchange I wanted.

Tomorrow I should find a guesthouse that focuses more on interaction.

I did book a party guesthouse…

I hope it is not some wild Law of the Jungle party ㅠ

< Day 4/4 >

naver-010-103

< Lodging (Annyeong Project Guesthouse) - Hamdeok Seoubong Beach >

(about 4.4 km)

naver-010-104

Today there was not much course left,

so I decided to stop by the 4.3 Peace Memorial Hall that caught my eye while passing.

Honestly, I had only heard the name of the Jeju 4.3 Incident and did not know what it was, so I suddenly became curious.

naver-010-105

naver-010-106

naver-010-107

naver-010-108

naver-010-109

naver-010-110

naver-010-111

I think it fully did the job of a memorial hall.

It was a precious time where I could feel many deep emotions and think many different thoughts.

Any history, unless remembered, is forgotten, and eventually someday repeated through the same mistakes.

That must be why we need to know history.

naver-010-112

While thinking about this and that, I arrived before long.

< Hamdeok Seoubong Beach - Yongduam >

(about 22.5 km)

naver-010-113

naver-010-114

naver-010-115

naver-010-116

naver-010-117

I think one photo can contain more than a hundred words.

naver-010-118

One chair is empty ㅠ

When I come here again, I should seat a person there instead of a bag…

naver-010-119

naver-010-120

naver-010-121

Maybe it would look like this?

naver-010-122

naver-010-123

ㅠ_ㅠ

Ha… I am hungry.

Let’s just eat…

naver-010-124

naver-010-125

Hehe, super honey-tasty!!

As expected, boneless fish is the best!

My mood improved.

naver-010-126

When I come later, I should learn surfing too.

naver-010-127

Oh no, why…

naver-010-128

A commemorative shot after coming down from a suddenly insane steep hiking-trail uphill section.

I almost collapsed from being out of breath;;

naver-010-129

One-line course review: Everything is rideable except the suddenly appearing steep hiking trail.

Over - come!

It is finally over…!!!

Through an all-day heat wave warning,

through intermittent showers pouring down,

I rode one full loop of Jeju Island by bicycle.

When I realized I had finally achieved my goal,

I felt a thrill through my whole body.

It was a truly valuable challenge,

and a challenge that gave me so many realizations.

It was an extremely precious experience.

Since this bicycle trip fully recharged my confidence that I can do it too,

when I return to Seoul, I should carry this confidence as it is and immerse myself in making Life RPG and preparing for startup.

< Yongduam - Lodging (Nomad Inn Jeju) >

naver-010-130

Returned the bicycle,

naver-010-131

naver-010-132

and I needed to reward myself for all that suffering.

I went to Starbucks and ate a lot of the chocolate I like.

(Java Chip Frappuccino + ganache cake)

Afterward, I still had time before lodging check-in at 5 p.m.,

so I finished the piled-up work on my laptop.

naver-010-133

Since my chocolate lunch diet lacked protein, supplementation.

naver-010-134

Souvenirs before going to the lodging.

naver-010-135

naver-010-136

Okay, preparations complete.

naver-010-137

naver-010-138

Arrived.

Already full of guesthouse mood.

naver-010-139

naver-010-140

So high.

Oh, soft and fluffy~

naver-010-141

Thankfully, it was a conversation-centered potluck party!

So it would not be some Law of the Jungle situation.

One worry down.

naver-010-142

Everyone bought what they wanted to eat and we ate while chatting moderately.

But honestly, it was not fun lol

The biggest disappointment was that there was not even one person I clicked with in conversation.

If there had been even one, I think I could have had at least some fun… tsk.

Anyway, slept well!

It was an enjoyable and rewarding trip 😆
