βModelsβ p56
A single sentence in the book broke a long-held misunderstanding of mine. Maybe I had been trying to become a neat, smooth piece that could fit harmlessly with everyone. It came from wanting not to hurt anyone and wanting to be a good person to everyone.
But just as a puzzle becomes one complete picture only when empty spaces and protruding parts fit together, maybe relationships are the same. As the book says, perhaps revealing my rough edges, in other words my βvulnerability,β is the first step into a true human relationship.
The courage not to hide my own unique shape. Sometimes I am afraid that this unevenness may make someone uncomfortable, but surely there are also people who will feel at ease because they fit that exact shape.
From the beginning, the world had been teaching me in a harsh way: there are not only circles, but also triangles, squares, and stars. And with people who have a completely different texture, no matter how hard we try to make it fit, both sides end up getting hurt at the same time.

So now, I will stop trying to become a perfect circle that fits everyone, and try honestly revealing the unique shape of the piece that is me. I believe that will help me grow into a stronger person, and into someone who forms more genuine relationships.
And I will remind myself again: people with different shapes are different from me, not wrong. I was not the only one hurt while trying somehow to force relationships that did not fit. They must have been hurt too.
