Suddenly I had this thought.
Could the state of βbeing chased by somethingβ be defined as a kind of βevilβ?
When one is chased psychologically, temporally, economically⦠by something, reason and emotion are paralyzed to a considerable degree, and one becomes possessed only by the instinctive desire to escape that state.
This reaction is probably a kind of primal survival instinct.
But ironically, the more faithful we are only to that instinct, the more likely we become to harm another being or act without moral judgment.
Then could the state of relying only on instinct itself be a kind of βevilβ?
This happened before. When a bus was delayed about 20 minutes because of an unexpected road closure, I saw a passenger take all kinds of anger out on the innocent bus driver while getting off.
And maybe because of that passenger, or maybe because the dispatch schedule got disrupted, the driver kept muttering all kinds of curses to himself afterward.
Watching that scene, this thought suddenly came to me.
A chased person makes another person chased too. And inside that structure where everyone lives as if running away, morality and sensitivity gradually fade.
Also, this happened just yesterday.
Yesterday I spent the whole day pouring all my time into church work.
In the past, when I had no room in my heart, all the ministries that began with a good heart of service and came back as duty and responsibility felt like a heavy burden.
But when I had room in my heart like today, the ministries that had become heavy burdens as duty and responsibility returned again to the good heart of service.
Looking at this series of things, I think it is definitely possible to define the βstate of being chasedβ as a kind of βevil.β
Maybe the fact that Korean society is full of people gritting their teeth is partly connected to this context too⦠haha
Well, I do not really know either.
